Read the introduction, background of K-12 online courses - pp. 1-17.  How effective is K-12 online learning at this time?  What are the crucial elements of successful online courses in terms of design and management?  What do you see as the barriers to online learning effectiveness for secondary students?  What are the teacher proficiency requirements for K-12 online teachers?

Go the California Learning Resource Network and browse the online courses - http://www.clrn.org/browse/index.cfm/online-courses.  Additional K-12 online schools are listed in the week 5 learning activities.  Locate a K-12 online course and describe the subject matter, grade level, purpose, and summary of the review.  Report on the content standard met as well as the online standards met for the course.  Would this be a course you would be interested in teaching online at the secondary level?  Explain.

This week you will be begin planning your flipped video for your individual 21st Century Project-Based Lesson which is part of the multidisciplinary integrated curriculum unit. 

Design a direct instruction or tutorial video which you will eventually embed into video into your Edmodo classroom website.  See the folder of tutorials on free video programs (Screencastomatic, Screenr, Screencast, Jing, etc).  

You may wish to create a short PowerPoint instructional presentation to capture with audio - or locate web resources that you want to discuss.  

The video length should be less than 5 minutes.

You may use the video to introduce your topic, but be sure that you provide direct instruction related to your project-based lesson. 

This week you will complete your proposed flipped video script using the template provided.

This is a preliminary planning document designed to help you determine and organize exactly what subject matter content you want to teach your students in your 21st century project-based lesson.

You will need to provide additional instructional resources and web links that "teach" your content.  You will also prepare a short online quiz on your classroom website as a formative assessment.  

Be sure you "teach" students specific concepts, vocabulary, processes, etc. related to the lesson objectives and standards covered in your lesson.  

You might even include guiding questions related to your content and provide a link to a curriculum website or resource.

Group Wiki Time: You will need to finish up your multidisciplinary integrated curriculum unit and post a final version of the template in your wiki. One of your group members will need to compile all the information into one document which each participating member will submit in the week 5 assignment drop box.

In addition, one of the members of your group will need to start a collaborative Prezi and invite the rest of the group members to join.  You will be presenting your collaborative project through a Prezi in weeks 7 & 8.  Get your Prezi collaborative presentation site started tonight in class.

Each group read one of the articles and share insights for 3 minutes to the rest of the class.

Sign up for your account and create a group.  Explore the tutorials available in Docs and Resources.

You will be working in your collaborative group wiki as you plan your multidisciplinary integrated curriculum unit. 

This week you will also begin the process of planning an individual project-based lesson plan in your subject matter content area.  

You will be designing an individual lesson plan as a part of your collaborative group multidisciplinary integrated thematic unit plan.  

Your multidisciplinary integrated group unit plan will be due in week 5 and your individual project-based lesson plan will be due in week 6.

  Plan on incorporating the 4 Cs under the Learning and Innovation 21st Century Skills in your student project.

Decide on a project idea related to your group theme: summary of the issue, challenge, investigation, scenario, or problem.  

Write a "driving question" and determine which common core state standard and other content standards you will meet with this lesson.  

You will be posting your student project activities on your classroom website.  

Provide the major student product or presentation learning goals and instructions.  

You will be designing student learning activities and provide web links and/or resources for this lesson on your classroom website. 

You will also prepare a video for your flipped classroom presentation to provide direct instruction on the subject matter content of your lesson.  

Finally, you will create a formative assessment online quiz to help students improve their understanding of the curriculum content in your lesson.

Go to the group wiki folders (see red button menu: Group Wikis).  Your group wiki collaboration activities during weeks 2-4 are worth 12 points.

 I will grade your group participation and collaboration as well as your individual contribution to the planning process at the end of week 4. 

Your final group multidisciplinary integrated unit will be due at the end of week 5.

Weeks 2-3 Group Participation and Collaboration

Participate at least 3 times during the week and contributed to the completion of at least 4 of the following sections of the multidisciplinary integrated curriculum plan by the end of 
 week 3:
·       Organize and formalize group makeup and subject matter content independently.
·       Add name and subject matter to group members list in the brainstorming wiki
·       Brainstorm with peers and determined theme/topic for the multidisciplinary integrated curriculum unit throughout the week (at least 4 times).
·       Help determine potential community partner from business, industry, post-secondary institution, or community organization.
·       Help determined essential question to drive the learning unit of study.
·       Help created a project description for the multidisciplinary integrated curriculum unit plan.
